Then after the morality core is destroyed all of the layers are peeled back. Then when you get backstage she starts panicking and her real personality starts slipping through-but it's still not REALLY her personality since she's still trying to fool you and she's still stifled by the morality core. In the test chambers, she's playing the part of the "simple computer" helping you along. I think you can really see the evolution. One of them noticed that Portal 2 GLaDOS's dialogue didn't sound like either her dialogue in the test chambers or her dialogue "backstage", but it DID sound like a less crazy version of her dialogue after the morality core was destroyed. I've read some interviews by the creators, and I've read some reviews of the game by average gamers (I'm obsessed, I love the Portal games to an unhealthy extent). Wheatley actually had a really interesting developmental arc himself, and Merchant nailed it, but GLaDOS basically had to deal with having her entire worldview rocked in the span of a single day. I could pick GLaDOS for Portal 1 alone, let alone McLain's brilliant performance in Portal 2. Wheatley was awesome and Stephen Merchant did a truly terrific job, I loved him and I'm really splitting hairs here-but GLaDOS. Plus the voice acting of McLain is just insanely brilliant, she portrays GLaDOS's character arc so perfectly. It's creative and awesome, my type of humor all the way. Her brand of humor comes in the form of mind games-passive aggressiveness and sarcasm. But GLaDOS was also wickedly funny, in a more subtle way. I adored Wheatley, and I thought he was hysterical. So I'm eager to ask Wolpaw (who, before joining Valve as a writer, contributed to the script for Double Fine's brilliant Psychonauts) how they pulled it off.GLaDOS.
